Northwest Performance Software has several NetScanTools editions too offer. The Basic Edition, which is offered for free, provides access to a set of essential networking tools. And more to the point, it provides access to the following networking tools: Ping, Graphical Ping, Traceroute, Ping Scanner, WhoIs, DNS Tools Simple (Simple Query, Who Am I, Test Default DNS).

A setup wizard will guide you through all the steps you need to take to install NetScanTools Basic Edition on your Windows PC. When the setup wizard is done, it will ask to launch NetScanTools Basic Edition. When NetScanTools Basic Edition launches, you will get to see three windows: a prompt that asks you to choose if you want to be notified by email when a new program version is available; a window that presents the Help file; and a window that presents the application’s main interface.

The aforementioned Help file does a nice job of presenting all the networking tools that are offered by NetScanTools Basic Edition. Speaking of which, said tools are nicely presented on the interface; there’s a panel on the left hand side that groups the tools into several categories (DNS, Ping and Traceroute, Scanning, Whois) and allows you to easily access each category.

There is nothing complicated about using NetScanTools Basic Edition. Want to ping an address? Access the Ping tool, enter the address, and hit Do Ping. Want to access information about an address? Access the WhoIs tool, enter the address, and hit Do WhoIs Query. Want to perform a traceroute? Access the Traceroute tool, enter the address, and hit Do Traceroute.

NetScanTools Basic Edition, as mentioned at the start of this article, is offered for free. If you need access to more networking tools, consider switching to another NetScanTools edition.

Get NetScanTools Basic Edition and you will have free access to an essential set of networking tools. If you need more, you have to get another NetScanTools edition.
